The Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Uses:- 1. The present perfect continuous is used to refer to an action that started in the past and is still happening. Ex. I have been living in this city for 10 years.
2. It may also refer to an action that ended in the recent past.
Ex. I’ve been trying to solve this problem (but now I’ve stopped)
Form:- The present perfect Continuous tense is formed by using has been / have been + the present participle form of the main verb. Has been is used in the case of third person singular subjects.
Exercise (Elementary)
Fill in the blanks with the present perfect continuous tense of the verbs:
1. I __________in this company for 10 years. (work)
2. Rohit __________ your car. (Repair)
3. We __________here since 1984. (live)
4. The dog __________ all through the night. (bark)
5. She __________ since evening. (sing)
6. They __________ since morning. (Play)
7. Amit __________ for the last four hour. (steady)
8. They __________ in this school since 1990. (teach)
9. You __________ for a long time. (Speaking)
10. The child __________ for two hours. (cry)
Use of for and Since For and since are generally used with the present perfect or the present perfect continuous tense:-
1. For is used to express a period of time.
For ten minutes, for eight years, for a long time.
2. Since is used to express a point of time.
Since morning, Since Friday, Since 1991, Since 10 a.m.
